Digital Photo Frame – 5 Guidelines to Buying

April 18, 2009 by dkimball

Follow our 5 simple guidelines to find a digital photo frame that delivers great features and sharp images.

Stand alone picture frames are just that, they stand alone only displaying the one picture they hold – Boring.  Digital photo frames, on the other hand, let you create slideshows with transitions to display all of your vacation pictures the minute you get home. Some of these devices integrate video, audio, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and a host of other features, too. LCD technology is finally becoming affordable enough for these digital photo frames to be found at reasonable prices. But you need to know what to look for. So here are our 5 guidelines for choosing the right frame for you.

Guideline 1: You must consider the user
Some digital photo frames have high tech features; full Web browsers, streaming Internet radio, text news feeds and Wi-Fi. These features also add complicated menu options that may be confusing to the technically challenged users. It may be best to stay away if you don’t think you or the person receiving the digital photo frame will take advantage of these features. On the other hand, technically savvy users will enjoy Web-enabled features, such as the ability to e-mail photos or see up-to-date weather forecasts.

Guideline 2: Don’t buy based on brand name alone
It’s such a new playing field that Brand Name just doesn’t cut it anymore. As long as the digital photo frame has the features you are looking for and you have read your reviews for the frame you can do and get great deals on digital photo frames from just about any name.

Guideline 3: Stay away from resolution below 640 by 480 Pixels
If the digital photo frames resolution is below this it is too low to display details, so most of its images tend look boxy and granular. Consider only digital photo frames with a resolution of 640-by-480 or higher.

Guideline 4: Consider your aspect ratio
Digital photo frames normally come in two aspect ratios, 4:3 or 15:9.  Most digital cameras capture photos in 4:3. A Digital photo frame with an aspect ratio of 4:3 will be the best fit for your photos. A 15:9 digital photo frame will have to crop the top and bottom of your photos to fit the image on the LCD screen.  While a 15:9 aspect ratio gives your images a pleasing widescreen feel which might be a better bet for some people.

Guideline 5:  Where will you display it
Where will it sit or hand in your office or home? Size of the digital photo frame, distance from which you will view the digital photo frame all matter when choosing the right digital photo frame.

Digital Photo Frame – Choosing the Right Size for You

April 18, 2009 by dkimball

Set a digital photo frame on a table and watch as everyone begins to smile and talk about times shared in those photos. Grab a key chain digital photo frame and show those vacation photos to anyone anytime. Hang a digital photo frame on the wall and transform that space into memory wall, where you can relive your memories as often as you want. Digital photo frames are sort of like candles as to how they draw people’s attention, place one near that great sofa or antique table you just bought and listen for the compliments!

Digital photo frames are simply accessories to help you share your life. Deciding on what fits where; is an important factor in buying a digital photo frames.  Digital photo frames come in all physical shapes and sizes; multiple frame on frame, rectangle, square, key chain, egg style, pencil holder, desk clock and on and on. Each of these come in many different sizes from 1.5” key chain style to the 15.9” majestic digital photo frame, as well you can find them in just about any color. If you don’t like the color matte the digital photo frame comes with, don’t worry a lot of them come with changeable mattes so the digital photo frame will always match your décor – just look for that when you are shopping.

The thing to remember is the smaller the frame the closer you will have to be to it to see a clear picture. So let’s say a 7” to 8” digital photo frame you’d have to be about 2 to 3 feet from to see the detail. While a 15” digital photo frame you could be 6 to 8 feet from it. The larger frames are good for walls or larger table spaces where one might not be able to walk up to the space or it’s not easy to do so. Think about the power supply you will need when you are deciding on where to place it and what size is best. Look for digital photo frames that come with a remote control if you are placing it in a hard to reach spot, then you can stop and start the digital picture show any time you want.

Choosing the right size digital photo frame will allow you to enjoy your pictures on your terms, anytime anyplace you want, choose wisely!
